There are really only two ways to
get to Juneau... via airplane
or boat.
The family car is welcome if you plan to make your trip via
the Alaska Marine Highway System. There are two departure ports
for the AMHS ferries Northbound, one in Bellingham, Washington
and the other in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Bellingham
departures are on Friday afternoon and most Tuesday afternoons
with arrival in Juneau on Monday and Friday mornings. During the
late spring and summer months there are several departures per
week from Prince Rupert and the trip takes approximately 24
hours. There are also two departure ports Southbound, one from
Haines and one from Skagway. The Southbound departures are almost
daily.
Alaska Airlines serves Juneau with 10 flights per day from
their primary hub in Seattle and 4 from their secondary hub in
Anchorage during the late spring and summer months. Several of
their flights are non-stops in and out from both hubs. Make sure
you book early for flights during the summer months. Juneau is a
popular place!
If you fly, there are plenty of rental cars from most of the
major rental companies. Just make sure you have a reservation
booked in advance. Also, there are lots of taxis and local bus
service.
There are also five major and several smaller cruise lines
that call at Juneau. There are approximately 26 ships
per week, May through September. We suggest you check with a
travel agent for the information on cruise ship travel.
Here are links
to both the Alaska Marine Highway System and Alaska Airlines so
you can check schedules and make reservations that fit your
travel plans.
